Record-Setting Rendezvous Picnic
Sunday, August 28, 2011
As part of the celebrations commemorating its anniversary this year, the St. Albert 150th Anniversary Celebration is hosting a Family Picnic of epic proportions on Sunday, August 28, 2011.
The picnic will take place along the Sturgeon Valley, within the city limits, stretching from Kinsmen Park to Kingswood Park. To mark the 150th anniversary, a plan to host many different activities at the picnic is under development. The activities will be sponsored and executed by the community, volunteers, local businesses and major stakeholders in the city.
Plans include distinct areas with different activities including an Artists’ Walk, First Nations and Métis heritage celebration, BMX and martial arts demonstrations, antique car and military vehicle show, skateboarding demonstrations, beach volleyball, baseball games, bunnock game demonstration, parade of mascots, ferris wheel, historical displays and demonstrations, food vendors, free local family entertainment and much, much more.
To make this historic day a success, over 300 volunteers will be needed. Aerial and ground photos will be taken of this historic event.
Cultivate St. Albert’s passion for picnics and celebrate 150 years of family and community at what could be the world’s largest picnic!
