Rendezvous 2011  |  St. Albert 150th Anniversary

May 2010

We have moved into our new office location at 109B – 50 Saint Thomas Street, St. Thomas Manor. The Project Coordinator and her assistant are currently working from this office. A receptionist is in the process of being hired. We will open up the retail space section of our office closer to 2011.

There has been media coverage of the St. Albert 150th Anniversary Celebration in the Saint City News, St. Albert Gazette and on Shaw TV.

Our Chair, Margaret Plain, received the honor of being named St. Albert's Citizen of the Decade — a well-deserved accolade.

Volunteer recruitment is in full swing. We have placed requests for volunteers in the St. Albert Gazette, as well as on our website, Facebook and Twitter. We had applications for volunteers at our booth at the Lifestyle Expo. We are also continuing to recruit subcommittee members for our Volunteer, Communications, Youth, Record-breaking Rendezvous Picnic, Gala/Homecoming, Partner/Operations, and our Sponsorship subcommittees so if you are interested, please call Susan at 780.458.4630.

A public forum was held on March 23rd, 2010 at the John Beedle Centre to inform the public and interested groups about the Record-breaking Rendezvous Picnic. The 150th Anniversary Info Fair will be held on Tuesday, May 11th , 2010 at the St. Albert Minor Baseball Association's clubhouse [map] which will be open to the public. Please join us from 6:30 to 8:30 PM and find out about the 150th Anniversary Celebration's major events happening throughout 2011.

Several new legacy projects have been proposed, as well as two new events were added to our celebration. The Black Bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon is a W.O. Mitchell play about a curling competition with the devil. It will run in concurrence with the Continental Cup.

Meet the Street by Maureen Rooney and Paul Punyi, Rooney and Punyi Educational Theatre Productions will be a production of eight vignettes. Buses will transport the audiences to different streets in St. Albert where they will hear a monologue about the person each location was named for.

Our mascot has been ordered and there are plans to unveil him on Canada Day. Our float will be ready in time for this year's Rainmaker Rodeo. We will also be participating in the Capital Ex parade, the Grey Cup parade and many other parades in neighbouring communities.

Registration for the Saturday, July 16, 2011 Homecoming [online] [or by PDF PDF] has begun and Save the Date cards for the Saturday, January 22, 2011 Kickoff Gala have been sent out. We are currently working on grant applications and our Sponsorship committee is meeting with businesses in hope of receiving more funding.
